Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is StreamRoll?

StreamRoll is a digital tabletop tool, allowing dice rolling, tracking rolls and enabling automation based on the rolls.

This project came about after I wanted to play Voyages, a roll and write boardgame, on my livestream, but realised there was no easy way of doing dice rolls available, so I made it myself.

Is StreamRoll free?

Yes! The core features are all free to all users, overlays, dice rolling and customisation options are all available. We also have a subscription service, StreamRoll+, which adds more features and options that will elevate your dice rolling!

What platforms does StreamRoll support?

We currently support accounts using either Twitch or Google to log in.

Do I need a Twitch account to use StreamRoll?

No, you can also log in with a Google account. Twitch accounts have access to the Twitch extension but they’re both functionally the same.

Setup & Getting Started

How do I get started with StreamRoll?

Once logged in, add your overlays to your streaming software of choice, create a config and hit roll! It’s as simple as that!

Learn more in our Quick Setup Guide.

Why isn’t my overlay showing up?

Ensure your overlay is visible in your streaming software and is the correct URL address provided by the tools panel.

Can I use StreamRoll without streaming?

Of course! The tool itself while designed for streaming, offers a range of tools for rolling dice over Discord, or for rolling on a laptop screen.

How do I create my first dice config?

On the dice page, hit the ‘Dice’ tab. Select ‘Add New Dice Config’ and you will be presented with the create config dialog. Name the config, add the dice, change the colours as required and hit ‘Confirm Dice’. This will add it to the list of available configs.

Features & Functionality

What dice types are supported?

We have all the popular and common dice available right now, D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20 and D100.

Can I create custom dice?

Not yet. If you have a dice you feel would be a great addition to the service, let me know.

What is a “Dice Config”?

A config is a collection of Dice that can be customised, apply effects and customise how it is shown in the rolled list overlay. These can override defaults or trigger other events, it can also be enabled to be usable in the Twitch Extension.

Configs can be resolved as notation however the extra features tied to it required a more complex structure to enable all the extra features.

How many configs can I have?

You get access to 3 configs to begin with. You can get unlimited by subscribing to StreamRoll+.

Can I trigger rolls programmatically?

Yes, check out the Streamer.Bot integration for how to get started with automating rolls.

Troubleshooting

My rolls aren’t appearing on stream

If they are not appearing in your streaming software, try opening the overlay in a browser and retry the rolls there.

The extension isn’t showing any configs or not set up!

Check there are configs enabled to be rolled on Twitch on the configs effects tab.

I’m getting an error message

Sometimes some errors on the options page can be solved by logging out and back in, but if it continues, let us know.

The overlay is frozen or lagging

Performance may lag on slightly less powerful machines, try limiting dice rolled to see the best performance in this case.

My integrations stopped working

Ensure your websockets servers are all configured correctly and are enabled, they can sometimes be disabled or changed location during updates.

Account & Security

Can I delete my account?

Yes, just email me with a request for data deletion and the account details.

What happens to my configs if I cancel my subscription?

Your configs will be safe, if you go over the limit you can still roll them however you will no longer be able to edit them. Any configs that have StreamRoll+ features will be prevented from rolling and prompt you to remove those features.
